Professional Development

Law students at the University of Mannheim can gain valuable practical experience in a large number of ways. On the one hand, they can visit the Career Day hosted by the Department of Law each fall semester. There, students can talk to employers, have their application documents checked, and listen to presentations – and all that on campus. Among the employers that take part in this event are law firms, authorities, and consultancies. On the other hand, they can use the internship database of the Department of Law, the Career Network’s Job Board, and the AStA Online Job Market to find internships or student jobs. They can turn to the Career Network for hands-on support on applying for a job. Among other things, it offers CV checks, coachings, or workshops. In addition, students who sign up to Absolventum’s mentoring program are allocated a mentor with practical experience, who can advise them on important career-related topics. Students can also participate in the  Willem C. Vis Moot and European Law Moot Court legal competitions where they can practice giving speeches in front of an international audience in a simulated trial.
