Integrated LL.B. and State Examination Program in Law

Studying Law at the University of Mannheim is more than just working towards the state examination. On your way, our Integrated LL.B. and State Examination Program in Law provides you with the unique opportunity to graduate as a Bachelor of Laws and acquire your first professional qualification after just six semesters. The University of Mannheim trains students to become lawyers with knowledge of Business Administration and Economics.

How does it work?

  • Phase one, the bachelor’s program, already includes substantial parts of the first state examination in Law...

The focus during phase one, the bachelor’s program in Business Law (LL.B.), is placed upon private law, business law, and economic law. Modules in law represent approximately 60 percent of the integrated program and also cover material that is mandatory for the state examination. Modules in Business Administration and Economics account for a further 30 percent of the program, with focus placed on business administration. For this part of the program, you can choose between specializing in tax and accounting, or human resources. Finally, students take modules to develop soft skills, such as presentation techniques and negotiation management. After the first phase of the program, you will earn the professional qualification “Bachelor of Laws in Business Law (LL.B.)” from the University of Mannheim. By then, you will also already have completed the state examination in private law.

  • During the additional four semesters of phase two, the state examination, you will...

...learn about public law and criminal law – the other areas mandatory for the state examination. Upon completion of phase one, the bachelor’s program, students are automatically admitted to phase two, the state examination, without having to take part in another admissions process. At the end of phase two, students will sit the remaining exams of the state examination and graduate with both a bachelor's degree and the first state examination in Law.

In phase one, the bachelor’s program in Business Law (LL.B), students have to complete a one-month internship. Another two months have to completed in phase two, the state examination in Law.

I decided to study Law in Mannheim because it enabled me to combine Law with Business Administration. I was glad I didn’t have to decide on the direction I wanted to go in straight away. Being able to think in an interdisciplinary manner is really useful as I work as a lawyer in a corporate law firm, and have to address questions from both fields on a daily basis.
