Prof. Dr. Friedemann Kainer

Chairholder of the Chair of Civil Law, German and European Business and Labour Law

Professor Kainer is the chairholder of the chair of Civil Law, German and European Business and Labour Law at the University of Mannheim. Furthermore he is director of the Institute for Corporate Law at the University of Mannheim (IURUM) and senior member of the Mannheim Centre for Competition and Innovation (MaCCI).

Short Portrait

Study of Law in Heidelberg, First State Law Examination in 1997. Afterwards doctroal candidate at the chair of Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Peter-Christian Müller-Graff about the topic “Corporate takeovers within the law of the internal market. Also a contribution to the effect of the fundamental freedoms on Civil Law” (Fritz-Grunebaum-Prize-winning), doctoral viva in June 2001. 2000–2002 court trainee at DC Frankenthal with stations including New York. 2002 research assistant and later on Academic Counsil at the Institute for German and European Coporate and Business Law, habitilation about the topic “Equal Treatment in Civil Law” in 2012 (Venia legendi for Civil Law, Corporate Law, Business Law, European Law and Labour Law). Research stays in the U.S. and Belfast (there 2008 research fellow at the Transitional Justice Institute), numeral lectures and lectureships, including lecturer at the school of German Law in Cracow. Since fall term 2012 chairholder at the University of Mannheim.
