Exchange Stays

What’s special about the integrated program in Law (LL.B.)?

Studying abroad offers law students the opportunity to gain insight into a different legal system, improve their foreign language skills, and acquire valuable international experience. Thanks to an extensive network of partner universities around the world, students can choose from a wide range of attractive exchange opportunities.

The selection of a suitable host university and the planning of a study-abroad period should be carefully considered. The International Office’s partner university database allows students to search for universities based on their individual preferences and provides information on the language of instruction, partner institutions, and reports from former exchange students.

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws in Corporate Law programme can find all relevant information on the following pages regarding the planning and completion of a study-abroad experience.

  • Application

You must apply via the International Office. Please check the International Office’s website for information on the current application process and the required documents as early as possible. The International Office regularly organizes the Introductory Study Abroad Meetings where you can also obtain critical information on how to plan your stay abroad. Alternatively, you can use the application instructions which summarize the most important facts and figures of the application process. In case you still have questions, you can contact the International Office directly.

  • Application deadline

The regular application deadline for study-abroad opportunities at our partner universities worldwide is 15 October. As part of this application process, students may apply for study periods in either the Fall/Winter Semester or the Spring/Summer Semester.

If exchange places remain available after the regular allocation process, these will be advertised as remaining places for study periods in the Spring/Summer Semester. The application deadline for these remaining places is 15 March.

  • Academic leave of absence

When going abroad, students who wish to retain the possibility of Abschichtung (taking the first state examination in stages) must apply for an academic leave of absence according to the regulations issued by the LJPA (PDF). For the duration of their leave of absence, they are not allowed to take any exams at the University of Mannheim. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact our competent international coordinators. Student Services can provide you with more information on the academic leave of absence and the request form.
